The ECO-Rep Program is a selective year-long program facilitated by the Office of Sustainability where freshman at the Homewood campus work together to develop, design, and implement campus greening projects while promoting sustainable living among their peers.

Accepted Freshman: Apply to be a Class of 2016 ECO-Rep online here.
The deadline for applications is Monday September 10, 2012.

The mission of the ECO-Rep program is to increase environmental awareness and sustainable actions among Johns Hopkins students through focused activities, the dissemination of information, and hands-on projects.

Ten to fifteen freshmen will be selected each September to become ECO-Reps for the school year.  Each ECO-Rep has a responsibility to:

  • Attend a weekly, 1 ½ hour session during which environmental sustainability issues will be discussed and activities developed.
  • Work together as a team to develop routine activities or projects on environmental sustainability issues explored during the weekly meetings
  • Spend at least 2 hours a week outside of ECO-Reps meetings planning and coordinating activities and projects.
  • Serve as a liaison to atleast one Hopkins student organization whose mission or programming is related to, or has potential to be related to, environmental sustainability. Share regular updates with the team about the organization’s work and their involvement.

In exchange, each ECO-Rep will be compensated $150 per semester, will be able to add the activities and skills learned to their resumes as significant work experiences, and will gain valuable leadership and management skills. ECO-Reps will also meet and work with some of the most influential environmental advocates on campus and in the Baltimore region and will have an advantage in experience and established relationships when looking for internships and career building.
