| The ECO-Rep Program

ECO-Reps, Class of 2011 The purpose of the ECO-Rep program is to increase environmental awareness and sustainable actions among Johns Hopkins freshmen through focused activities, the dissemination of information, and the promotion of competition. Up to 10 Freshmen will be selected each September to become ECO-Reps for the school year. Each ECO-Rep has a responsibility to: Attend a weekly, 1 1/2 hour session during which environmental issues will be discussed and activities developed.
Work together as a team to develop one activity per month on environmental issues explored during the weekly seminars. The activity should have the goal of interactively engaging the majority of freshmen to teach them about the topic.
Create posters, flyers, and other materials to hang in the dorms and distribute around campus to increase environmental awareness.
Engage freshmen to excel in the types of activities that will help their dorms win the energy and recycling competitions.
In exchange, each ECO-Rep will be compensated $150 per semester, will be able to add the activities and skills learned to their resumes as significant work experiences, and will gain valuable leadership and management skills. ECO-Reps will also meet and work with some of the most influential environmental activists in the area, and will have an advantage in experience and established relationships when looking for internships and career-building.
